In the municipality of Ozumba, State of Mexico, a man was arrested for attempting to abandon the body of a baby that was between 8 and 9 months of gestation. The baby was wrapped in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box, with the intention of leaving it at the back of the municipal cemetery, by the federal highway Mexico-Cuautla.
The arrest was made by state police who noticed a truck parked suspiciously near the cemetery. When approaching the driver, there was no resistance to being checked. However, upon opening the passenger door, they discovered the corpse of the baby which still had the umbilical cord attached.
The arrested man claimed he simply stopped at the location to urinate and was unaware that he was carrying the corpse in his truck. Furthermore, he stated that he was returning from having some clinical tests in the municipality of Tepetlixpa. Despite not finding anything illegal on his person, he was taken to the Public Ministry of Amecameca to determine his legal situation.
In the process, an investigation was started to clarify the case and forensic services will be responsible for collecting the baby’s body. The motives behind this tragic event are still to be determined.
